Who’s House? Michael S. Smith Designs Obama White House

The similarities of a 2004 Rosewood House customer gallery to a 2008 publication, Houses (Rizzoli 2008), by Michael S. Smith is uncanny.

From Smith’s publications and work, he would surely qualify and is wholeheartedly welcome as a Rosewood House enthusiast. Congratulations to the California-based decorator for securing the noble position as the official “White House Decorator”!

San Francisco Festival

Saturday, May 16th, 2009, 11am-6pm: Civic Center, San Francisco

Rosewood House will be featured in Dragon Motif’s display at the outdoor 5th annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration, May 16th, 2009, in San Francisco. The celebration runs from City Hall to Asian Art Museum to Little Saigon. Previous years in Sunset District and Japantown were super but this year’s location tops it all: it’s between City Hall and the Asian Art Museum. Moreover, it’s a few blocks from Market St. Civic Center BART and the Bay Bridge. AHSC is making a go at exceeding its 80,000 attendees record, featuring everything from food, cultural exhibits, anime, children’s carnival rides, live bands, to dance performances. Most significantly, the event, though celebratory in nature, was established to create awareness of Hepatitis B and offers free Hep B screenings to all attendees. Finally, purchase from Dragon Motif or Rosewood House and earn a free admission to the Asian Art Museum. It was great seeing everyone at the show!

Asian Art in Snowboarding

This snowboard embodies classical modernity, the essence that Rosewood House captures in its custom design furniture…

Spring is here but Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly mountain is strong with an 80″-110″ base of snow from a wet March. In the local board shop, Lafayette’s Milosport on Mt. Diablo Blvd., I checked out final 2009 snowboards and above it all, a boldly designed snowboard was displayed in the spotlight. Behold, the Arbor Coda snowboard, made of poplar wood, bamboo (yes, you can actually see the bamboo running up and down the topsheet), and the stunning antique graphic of a playful samurai and dragon inspired from a Japanese silk scroll over 200 years ago.

The snowboard embodies classical modernity, the essence that Rosewood House captures in its custom design furniture. Take something classical and apply it to contemporary use. Good job, Arbor! We hope to see more of the Asian art influence in modern hardgoods with appeal to the mainstream. As for authentic art, you’ll find a handselected collection of silk screens, scroll art, sculptures and statuary from the Pacific Rim, Japan down to Thailand, for sale at the Rosewood House. Let us know what you are looking for by contacting us or visiting our stores. All the skiiers and snowboarders, enjoy the last of the snow before Spring really kicks into gear!
